we would like to welcome you to EuToCoM's website. Here you can find all the information about the meeting, such as accommodation, travel, program and a lot more. Before you proceed to your tour in the site i would like to give you an idea of what EuToCoM is all about.

As the Tobacco industry targets younger and younger people as their new customers we must fight back in order to prevent smoking from becoming the first avoidable cause of death not only in Europe, but in the whole world.

The best way to achieve this is by intervening in young people before they become nicotine addicts. For this reason we believe that the key target group in order to stop tobacco use is the school students. Children of that age want to try new things, feel free and independent and to do so, they try a lot of things that the grown ups restrict. During this quest of independence it is very possible to try smoking. In this particular link of the chain we can intervene and convince them that the use of tobacco has nothing to do with independence and that it's only a matter of hurting their Health and making the Tobacco Industry even more profitable.

So, basically EuToCoM is a workshop that aims to train Medical Students on Intervention Strategies in Primary Schools for the prevention of Tobacco use among students.

In order to be capable to do that the training is divided in two sections. The first section consists of all the scientific information which includes among others; how active and passive smoking affects the human body, which is the way that nicotine addiction is created; you will gain communication skills in order to approach correctly smokers and passive smokers in order to inform them and a tone of other things related to Tobacco. The second section consists of  intervention strategies in primary schools. A whole day is dedicated to teach you those techniques. The educational process of the meeting is based on interactive lectures, role playing games and small working groups.

The greater idea behind this meeting is the creation of a European peer to peer education network that will be able to reproduce itself and it's members will be able to intervene in Primary and Secondary Schools. For these reasons, we expect from the participants when they will return to their country to take action in training more people and expanding the network in their country.
